Braided
For 80 years from 1830 to 1900, the creek was in a human maintained creek bed. This allowed the ancient beds to grow in vegetation. When a sawmill sawdust clogged Col. Carters Creek bed, then the creek took a new course just west of the old location. In 1965 when Frank Towsend Sr. reopened the first 1500 feet of the dike, then the creek divided its flow between the two creek beds through the vegetation causing braids.
