Manskin Lodge
The Wormeley Family lived on a farm known as “Manskin Lodge” located just across and downstream of Totopotomoy Creek. All the descriptions I can find at the Virginia Historical Society keep saying “a farm called Manskin Lodge. ” I think the farm was named for the original Indian lodge located on the Herman Map, not the house. In 2008 Frank Townesend of Pampatike also told me a story about a man being skinned alive there by the Indians, and that’s how it got its name (Man-Skinned.)
