In the 1771 Thomas Jefferys Map shows there were two Indian settlements on the Pamunkey. The Manskin Indians in the vicinity of “The Island.” The other villages is where the current Pamunkey Indian reservation is located. This maps seems heavily influenced by the Smith Map using the “multiple island” method of depiction. He shows 4 lodges.
Pamunkey is spelt “Pamaomeck”
and is always designated
as a separate village in this
series of maps.
